How to Add a Watermark to an Image

Protect your photos and artwork by adding a custom text watermark with adjustable position, size, color, and opacity.

Position your watermark thoughtfully

A center watermark is the hardest to remove but it covers the main subject. Corner watermarks — bottom-right and bottom-left — are the most common compromise between visibility and non-intrusiveness.

Avoid placing the watermark on a flat uniform area like a plain sky or white background, where it can be cropped out or easily cloned away.

Adjust opacity for the right balance

Very high opacity watermarks are hard to remove but can distract from the image. Most photographers find 30–60% opacity gives a visible but non-intrusive mark.

Use a lighter color or lower opacity on bright images, and a brighter or higher-opacity mark on dark images, so the watermark stays readable in both cases.
