Positioning text for readability

Text placed over a busy or textured area of the image is hard to read. Either position the text over a simple, uniform region or add a semi-transparent colored background behind the text to separate it visually.

Bottom-left and bottom-right corners are conventional spots for photo credit and copyright marks. Centered text works well for titles and banner headers.

Font size, color, and opacity

Make the text large enough to read at the intended display size. On a 1080 px image, a font size under 20 px will be too small on screen and almost invisible in print.

White text with a slight shadow, or black text on a light area, works on most photos. For a discreet watermark, lower the opacity to 30–50% so the text is readable but does not distract.
