How to Resize Images for Instagram

Instagram displays posts at up to 1080 px wide. Square: 1080×1080. Portrait: 1080×1350. Landscape: 1080×566. Stories and Reels: 1080×1920.

Uploading larger images is fine — Instagram will downsample them — but always match the correct aspect ratio first so nothing gets cut.

If you upload an image with a different ratio than expected, Instagram may crop automatically and cut the subject or remove important edges.

Resize and crop to the exact final ratio before posting. Portrait (4:5) gives the most screen space in the feed and is a good default for food, fashion, and portrait photography.
