How to Resize Images for Facebook

Profile photo: 170×170 px on desktop. Cover photo: 851×315 px. Shared post image: 1200×630 px. Event cover: 1920×1005 px. Timeline photo: upload at 2048 px on the long edge for best quality.

Facebook compresses uploaded images aggressively. Uploading at the recommended resolution gives Facebook less room to downsample and usually results in a better-looking final image.

Facebook re-encodes images as JPG even if you upload a PNG. To minimize artifacts, use sRGB color space and keep the file size under 100 KB before uploading.

For cover photos and event banners with text, export as JPG at quality 90–95 before uploading. This leaves less for Facebook's compression algorithm to damage.
