How to Make an Animated GIF From Photos

Choose frames that read as motion

GIFs work best with 3 to 10 frames that show a clear progression: steps of a tutorial, a before/during/after, or a simple loop.

Keep all frames the same orientation. Mixed portrait and landscape frames force letterboxing and look inconsistent.

Balance speed and file size

2 fps reads like a slideshow, 5 fps feels animated, 10 fps is smooth but heavier. For sharing in chat, 480px wide at 5 fps is a sweet spot.

GIF colors are limited to 256 per frame, so flat graphics compress beautifully while photos may show slight banding.
