When PNG-to-JPG conversion makes sense
PNG files are lossless, which means photos saved as PNG are often much larger than they need to be. Converting to JPG at quality 80–90 usually cuts the file size dramatically with no visible difference at normal viewing sizes.
This conversion is ideal for photographs, social media images, and any content where file size matters more than pixel-perfect accuracy or transparency.
What you lose in the conversion
JPG does not support transparent pixels. If your PNG has a transparent background, the transparency will be filled with white during conversion. Export as PNG or WebP instead if you need to preserve transparency.
JPG uses lossy compression, so fine details in sharp-edged graphics, text, and line art may develop visible artifacts. For those image types, keep the PNG format.
