How to Restore Old and Damaged Photos Online

AI restoration models are trained on millions of damaged and repaired photo pairs and learn to predict what a clean version of a degraded photo should look like. They can reconstruct missing detail, reduce grain, and sharpen blurry regions.

Results are especially good on portrait photos. The model has learned face structure, skin texture, and hair priors that allow realistic detail reconstruction even from low-quality scans.

Scan the physical photo at 600 DPI or higher before uploading. A higher-resolution scan gives the model more information to work with and results in a sharper restoration.

If the original photo has tape, tears, or water damage crossing important areas, the restoration may not fully reconstruct them. Use the 2x upscale option when the original scan is small.
