How to Reduce Image Size for WhatsApp

When you send a photo as a regular image, WhatsApp re-compresses it aggressively, often making it blurry. Compressing it yourself first to a reasonable size gives you control over the final quality.

Resize to around 1600px on the long edge and compress to quality 80 — it stays sharp and sends fast.

If you need the original untouched, send the photo as a 'document' instead of an image — WhatsApp won't recompress it.

For everyday sharing though, a self-compressed JPG looks better than letting WhatsApp do it.
